When Should You Size Up in Baby Pajamas?

Babies grow fast—like, one-minute-they-fit-and-the-next-they-don’t fast. And when it comes to snug-fitting pajamas, it can be tricky to know exactly when to size up. Are those jammies supposed to be that snug? Or is it time for the next size?

At Bailey Baby, we design all our bamboo baby pajamas with stretch, softness, and room to grow. Here’s how to tell when it’s time to size up—and why our snug-fitting PJs last longer than you’d think.

👀 Signs It’s Time to Size Up

Here are a few clues that your little one is ready for the next size:

  • Snaps or zippers are hard to close

  • Cuffs or ankles leave marks

  • Torso or legs look overstretched

  • You’re seeing midriff or ankles peeking out

  • They’re waking up more often (possibly uncomfortable!)

Snug-fitting pajamas are designed to be close to the body for safety, but they should never feel restrictive. If your baby seems irritated or hard to dress, it’s probably time to go up a size.

📏 Our Sizing Philosophy: Snug, But Stretchy

All Bailey Baby pajamas are made from ultra-soft bamboo viscose with four-way stretch. That means even our snug-fitting styles:

  • Fit securely while still allowing movement

  • Stretch through growth spurts

  • Stay comfy longer than traditional cotton

We include extra length in the arms and legs to give your baby more time in each size. Plus, snug-fitting PJs help avoid chemical flame retardants—so they’re both safe and gentle on sensitive skin.

🧺 Washing Tip: Stretch It Back

If your pajamas feel slightly snug after the wash, a quick gentle stretch before drying or after pulling from the dryer can help bring them back to shape. Bamboo fabric loves to move and rebound, making it extra forgiving during those growth spurts.

📆 Typical Timing for Sizing Up

Every baby is different, but here’s a general guide:

  • Newborn – 3M: Babies may grow out of this size quickly

  • 3M – 6M: Great stretch window; usually fits longer

  • 6M – 12M: Watch for mobility changes (crawling, pulling up)

  • 12M – 24M: Transition to two-piece sets often begins

If your baby is in between sizes, we recommend sizing up for longer wear—especially with our stretchy bamboo styles.

Fit That Lasts (and Lasts)

At Bailey Baby, we’re all about cozy clothes that grow with your baby. Whether you’re picking out a footed sleeper or a two-piece set, you can feel confident that you’re getting softness, safety, and stretch—all wrapped up in adorable Maine-inspired prints.
